DEDICATION PAGE

This page is dedicated to all those wonderful afghans and their owners that have touched our lives through the years, some have passed and some are still with us, but they will all remain in our hearts forever.

There are lots of photos so the page may take a little time to load - but its certainly worth the wait!

GR CH Khandhu Moody Blue (Imp. Aust.)
Regan”
5.12.89 - 14.8.04

Colour: Blue
Sire: Aust. Ch Kelzarki Blue Spruce
Dam: Aust. Ch Khandhu Amazing Grace

Breeders: Paul & Pauline Hewitt

Regan became one of New Zealand’s most well-known Afghan Hounds during the 1990’s. His wins included 6 Specialty BIS , 6 All Breeds BIS and 2 Hound Club BIS. He was Dominion Afghan Club Afghan of The Year 1992-93, Dog of The Year 1991-92-93

He also was the first Afghan in 19 years to win an “In Show” award at the 1991 Tux National Dog Show, winning Best Junior in Show. He was one of that very successful Khandhu litter of Accolade, Mandella, and Flo-Jo, who are in so many pedigrees today throughout the world.

Regan was only used at stud in our own Kennel and produced many All Breeds and Specialty Best in Show winners from 3 litters.

He was loved by all who were fortunate enough to become his “special friends” and lived his 14 ½ years as a great ambassador to the breed , always the true gentleman to those he encountered. He will forever be in our hearts, our beloved “Wriggles”.

This is one of the many tributes we received when Regan passed away 14th August 2004:

“Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Moody Blue.

He was and still remains one of the beautiful dogs I have ever judged. He was the sort of dog that brings a lump to the throat when you judged him.

He will be missed by all that knew and admired him.”

NZ CH Khandhu Lets Party (Imp. Aust.)
Rage
” 17.6.88 - 6.8.02

Colour: Black Masked Brindle

Sire: Aust. Ch Khandhu Cracker Jack
Dam: Pipina Sheer Energy

Breeders: Paul & Pauline Hewitt

We met Rage as a charming 8 week old bundle of mischief when we made our first trip to visit Paul & Pauline Hewitt while they were still living in Newcastle NSW. We went to look at a black masked gold male and everywhere we walked this little brindle baby girl would follow and sit on my feet whenever we stopped to admire the other puppies, and I didn’t even like brindles then! To cut a very long story short, Rage ended up coming to live with us after her first owner couldn’t cope with her very destructive habits! She quickly gained her NZ title and just loved the show-ring. She was mated to Regan and produced 4 Specialty BIS winners including our beautiful Grand Ch. Chakdarra Tygir Lily. Rage passed in August 2003 at 14 years and we still smile when we remember her exploits that always kept us on our toes!

NZ SBIS CH CHAKDARRA MIDNITE BLEUZ
“Jackson”
26.12.93 - 29.7.01

Colour: Black Dilution
Sire: NZ GR CH Khandhu Moody Blue (Imp. Aust)
Dam: NZ CH Khandhu Lets Party (Imp. Aust)

Owned & loved: Mike & Denise Richardson

Jackson was a Multi. Best in Group winner and another dog for the Specialists. After gaining his title, he was shown mainly at Specialty shows for some nice wins including Best in Show at the 1998 Dominion Afghan Club Champ. Show under Canadian breed specialist, Edgar Bajona then later in the year Best Dog and Res. Best in Show to his sister Lily, at DAC Open show under Owen Derryberry (USA).  On the occasions he was shown at All Breeds shows, Mike & Jackson always looked the “Team”……catching the eye of ’Mr. Afghan Hound” himself, Ed Gilbert (USA) at Huntly & Dist. K. A. awarding him BOB and Best of Group, Lily was BCC RBOB) Ed was the author of several Breed books including “K.9 Structure & Terminology” co-written with Thelma Brown.

Thank you Mike & Denise, for the wonderful loving home you gave to Jackson & Elle and for all the hard work you put into these two special afghan hounds…we were always so proud of them both.

SBIS CH CHAKDARRA MIDNITE OIL
“Chad” - 15.3.92

Colour: Black masked Brindle

Sire: NZ GR CH Khandhu Moody Blue (imp. Aust)
Dam: NZ CH Khandhu Let’s Party (imp. Aust)

Owned & loved: Kim & Desiree Crysell

Chad was also a Multi Best in Group winner and had several wonderful wins at afghan specialty shows including BEST in SHOW at Central Afghan Club Champ. Show 1993 under Kenneth Edh (Sweden) this time beating his dad Moody Blue who went RBIS to his boy! In 1997 he won DCC and Resv. Best in Show, again at Central Afghan Club under Sarah Hattrel-Brown (UK). Chad was always Kim’s “shadow” and was so treasured & loved (even if he earned the title of “The Buggar Dog”!!!!! )

SBIS CHAKDARRA TRUE COLOURS
“Jade”

Date of birth: 15 Mar 1992    Colour: Brindle

Sire: NZ GR CH Khandhu Moody Blue (imp. Aust)
Dam: NZ CH Khandhu Let’s Party (imp. Aust)

Owned & loved: Grant & Marie Tomlin

Jade is a very much loved family pet and at one of her very few outings to a dog show, when her owners had timeout from their busy lives, she won Best in Show at Canterbury Afghan Hound Clubs Open show. Thank you Grant & Marie for sharing your life with Jade and for all the love & care you have given her all these years, owners such as you are truly a “rare breed”!

SBIS CH CHAKDARRA SPANISH LACE
“Lacey”
8.1.85 - 4.12.96

Colour: Black masked gold

Sire: SBIS. BIS CH Avellino of Dwynella
Dam: El Tazzi Vesta (imp. Aust)

Lacey was an “only child” and grew up thinking she was a human. She was the most challenging afghan we had encountered because of her extroverted nature. However, she did blossom (eventually) and was a consistent winner at both All Breeds and Specialty shows

The most notable being BEST in SHOW at 1986 Central Afghan Hound Club Champ. Show under judge Elizabeth Humay (Aust) at just 17 months. Lacey unfortunately proved barren, but was our dearly loved “Rocket” to the end of her days.

CH CHAKDARRA SHADZ O’ TRESHA (I.I.D)
“Abbey”  18.12.80 - 5.12.89

Colour: Black masked gold

Sire: El Tazzi Mykoom
Dam: El Tazzi Vesta (imp. Aust)

A fellow afghan exhibitor once said, ”Abbey is always there in the line-up” which sums-up her show career so well. She was so consistent because she always had a “good day” and enjoyed her outings. Afghan entries were 40-50 at Championship shows then and Abbey was invariably always featured in the bitch challenge line-up. Her most memorable wins included BCC and Res. BEST in SHOW at 1984 Dominion Afghan Club Champ. Show under Erikka Rodde (Germany) with 100 breed entries. The following year she took Best of Group and RESV. BEST in SHOW at Rodney K.A. All Breeds Champ. Show under NZ judges E Banks (group) and D Quay (in show) Our special “Abba Dabba Do”!

BIS CH CHAKDARRA CANDY MAN
(“Khan“)
1977 - 1987

Colour: Black masked cream

Sire: NZ CH Candy vd Oranje Manege (imp Holland)
Dam: El Tazzi Farajiyah (imp. Aust.)

Owned & loved by Keith & Phillipa Harman

Khan was another very consistent winner for his owners, winning multi. Best of Groups and even after a long spell from the ring after badly breaking his back leg, he came back to win 2 All Breeds Best in Show awards.

EL TAZZI VESTA (Imp. Aust)
(“Eta”)
28.6.76 - 1.7.1991

Colour: Black masked sable

Sire: Racing CH Topper (mp. Holland)
Dam: el Tazzi Wida Din

Eta was one of our foundation bitches and she is the great-grandmother of our last surviving afghans with those old bloodlines, CH Chakdarra Moon Witch “Gracie” owned by us, and Chakdarra Moon Hawk (owned by Neville Skudder) She was never interested in the showring, but loved her babies and proved herself a great mum.
